Oriental Fairy Dendrobium Orchid Daily Care Manual and FAQs

Dendrobium Orchid, are you keeping it right? As a senior dendrobium orchid enthusiast, let me share super detailed care tips~!

Yellow Leaf Problems Explained

❶ Natural ageing: It is normal that the old branches about three years old will gradually yellow and wrinkle from bottom to top!

After the flower is most likely to appear, remember to cut off the old branches in time, which can also be used for propagation!

❷ Low temperature frostbite: Dendrobium orchids have a limited ability to withstand cold, and frost will result in yellowing and reddening of the leaves, and in severe cases, the whole plant will die.

When you find frostbite, move to a 5-10℃ environment, remove the yellow leaves, and remember not to water and avoid direct sunlight!

❸ Excessive sunlight: When the temperature is higher than 18℃, Dendrobium orchids like a semi-shade environment!

Strong sunlight will make the leaves on the sunny side yellow, especially the old ones, while the new ones appear yellowish green. Shade it promptly or move it to a ventilated semi-shady place, and it is recommended to cut off the already yellowed leaves.

❹ Root rot crisis: most likely to occur in winter!

The top leaves turn yellow downwards, the stems also turn yellow, and brown rotting spots appear on the leaf surface.

Turn over the pot immediately after discovery, clean up the rotting part, disinfect with carbendazim, re-pot, and control watering.

Four seasons maintenance tips

Winter prevention: maintain the appropriate temperature (cold-hardy varieties above 0 ℃, not cold-hardy varieties above 5 ℃), stop fertilising, control watering, and maintain more than 50% humidity.

Fertiliser principle: ‘thin fertiliser’ is the key! Fertiliser can only be applied when the temperature is between 10-30℃, once every fortnight. Remember to water thoroughly before applying fertiliser, and choose thinly rotted cake fertiliser or potassium dihydrogen phosphate.

My dendrobium orchid, according to this method, has been flowering for three consecutive years! You should try it too!
